Overview

Obesity doesn't just affect the way you look, it compromises the way you live. Excess weight can impair your health, paralyze your confidence and ultimately rob you of the life you deserve. But it doesn't have to be like this.

The South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center at Lexington Medical Center is helping people lose more weight than was once thought possible. With weight loss surgery, these patients are rediscover relationships, resuming favorite activities and reclaiming their lives. You could be one of them.

We offer two minimally invasive procedures for weight loss:

What is possible with weight loss surgery?

Weight loss surgery typically results in 70 percent excess weight loss within the first eight months. While a patient's physical transformation is stunning, the benefits of this procedure go far beyond the cosmetic. In addition to such self-image gains, weight loss surgery can drastically increase energy levels and help control weight-aggrieved conditions like heart disease, high cholesterol, degenerative arthritis and sleep apnea. Significant weight loss is also likely to alleviate a patient's need for insulin and blood pressure medication.

Is weight loss surgery right for you?

Weight loss surgery is not a final solution; it is the beginning of a life-long commitment to better health. As with any surgery, there are risks. And, naturally, not everyone is an optimal candidate for the procedure. If you are 18 or older and at least 100 pounds heavier than your ideal body weight, you might be a candidate for weight loss surgery. However, to ensure that this procedure is truly right for you, we conduct extensive physical and psychological preoperative evaluations.
