Avoiding Halloween Candy

Oct 29, 2018

Halloween is the start of the holiday season. October through December is a common time for people to gain weight due to the extra treats that the holidays bring. However, this does not have to be the case. Below you will find some helpful tips for avoiding Halloween candy.

1.
Buy candy that you do not like. This is one of the easiest ways to avoid temptation. You will not eat candy that you do not like, so buy it to hand out to others and you will not indulge.
2. Chew gum. Sugar-free gum can be a great alternative to eating candy. If you are chewing and tasting a sweet flavor, you are less likely to grab candy.
3. Don't skip meals. Managing your hunger will help you avoid the temptation to each hungry. If you are physically full, it will be easier to overcome psychological hunger. If you are physical hungry and tempted by candy, you will likely give into psychological hunger.
4. Out of sight, out of mind. Ask your co-workers and friends to keep candy out of plain sight. We often grab candy when we see candy dishes sitting out. If they aren't sitting out, you are less likely to be tempted to eat it.
5. Go for a walk. Getting some fresh air can make a big difference in your day, especially when you are stressed. Instead of indulging in candy for an afternoon pick me up, go for a walk.
