Hydration

Jan 25, 2021

Hydration is sometimes an after thought for people. Some people have no problem meeting their fluid needs while others have very little desire to drink. There are a few important things to remember about hydration:

  1. Your body is made mostly of water.
  2. The proper balance between water and electrolytes allows for systems to function properly. These systems include nerves, organs, and muscles.
  3. Your goal is to drink at least 64 ounces of sugar-free fluid per day, in between meals.

If you are adequately hydrated, you can prevent dehydration, improve your skin elasticity, and potentially prevent yourself from overeating. If you are not meeting your fluid needs, you could suffer from fatigue, nausea and vomiting, electrolyte imbalance, and kidney problems.

Always remember that bariatric surgery is not a quick fix. You must do the work in order to achieve your goals. Staying hydrated is one step in the right direction!
