No Time To Cook

Feb 19, 2021

“I don’t have time to cook, that’s why I eat a lot of fast food, processed food or skip meals.”  These are common phrases heard at Lexington Surgery.  We are all busy, looking for quick and easy ways to eat healthy and save time.  Two of the newest gadgets in the last few years have been the Instant Pot and the air fryer.  They both range in size and price but are quick convenient ways to cook a healthy meal for your family.

The Instant Pot is a pressure cooker (and a slow cooker, rice cooker and yogurt maker).  Instant Pot is a brand name.  Other similar brands include Cuisinart, Gourmia, Breville.  When food is cooked under pressure, it cooks much faster.  You can cook a large piece of meat, several chicken breasts or a large pot of soup or chili very quickly.

An air fryer is a mini convection oven.  The fast-moving air makes the food crisp, like frying, but without the fat.  The air fryer is excellent for cooking chicken, fish, potatoes and for roasting vegetables.  Did you forget to thaw your meat from the freezer?  With both products, foods can be put into them and cooked from a frozen stage.

Other meal prep ideas include:

  • Freeze prepped food and throw in the crockpot in the morning
  • Sign up for a meal delivery service
  • Buy pre-made food that keeps you on track
  • Cook extra food at a mealtime
  • Buy pre-chopped veggies

Next to having your own personal chef (which also would be nice) these products and ideas can help you get dinner on the table quickly!  Fresh, wholesome tasty food in a jiffy!
