Nutrition Advice

May 01, 2025

Where do you get your nutrition information?  In today’s information-saturated world there is a wealth of sources of nutrition advice on social media, television, Netflix and in bookstores.  You can get advice from physical trainers, doctors, politicians, celebrities, folks that label themselves as “nutritionists” and social media influencers.  Did you know most of the folks above have never taken one nutrition course!  When it comes to your health, it’s essential to consider the source.

That is why we have Registered Dietitians on staff at Lexington Surgery.  Registered dietitians or RD’s must fulfill a master’s degree in nutrition, complete a dietetic internship, pass a rigorous registered dietitian exam to be accredited by the American Dietetic Association.  They also must be licensed in the state in which they practice (passing nutrition education requirements) and maintain 75 hours of continuing education credits every 5 years.  Their advice is rooted in science, not trends, personal opinion or product endorsements.   If you have questions during your bariatric journey, feel free to call, email or MyChart our dietitians.
