Research shows that by attending bariatric support groups, a person is four times more likely to have successful weight loss outcome in comparison to those who do not attend support groups. In addition, studies show that those who attend support groups have greater weight loss success.
We all know that it isn’t easy to manage our weight in this country, which is why our Obesity disease rates have soared over the past several decades. Therefore, having various means of support is essential in achieving weight loss success long term.
At SCObesity, our goal with support groups is to help patients develop a sense of connection and support among their peers.
In addition, a support group will offer ……
- Motivation
- Learn proper eating patterns before and after bariatric surgery
- Offer a bridge between “oneself” and “others”
- Provide additional education
- Help cope with stress and prevent old habits from resurfacing
- Fun and safe environment with peers that “get it.” This is a place where anything goes and you are not judged!
